The Undaunted Collection by ...And Beyond

A collaboration by the design duo …And Beyond together with photographers Barrie Hullegie and Sabrina Bongiovanni creates a special exhibition that blends art and fashion. This collaboration is presented through installations playing on photography interacting with pieces from the latest …And Beyond collection, The Undaunted. and is a part of the Amsterdam International Fashion Week DOWNTOWN program. The concept of the exposition is based on on the concept behind The Undaunted collection: a feeling of fearlessness. Imagine flags, fortresses, symbols, passion, worship…

This is all set up at the Pop-up Café, a temporary exhibition that will take place from June 6 until August 2 at Meneer de Wit Gallery in Amsterdam.

Galerie Wouter van Leeuwen presents Summer in the City ’09, a collection of photographs from this reputable gallery with famous photographers such as Helga Bu, Elliott Erwitt, Thomas Hoepker and Timm Rautert. Very classic, mildly nostalgic images that speak of all of the emotions and ideas that drive the summer months on. At Hazenstraat 27, Amsterdam, from 16.00-19.00.

Elevate classes from Stichting Reckoning

Stichting Reckoning presents Elevate: a series of inventive classes for youth offered in English by bilingual instructors during the summer pause. Elevate offers creative programs to youth aged 6-18 in subjects that are uncommonly available during the school year. Each class offered is taught by instructors who are experts in their particular field. All classes will take place in various locations around the city of Amsterdam from 6 July to 15 August 2009. Registration per class ranges from €8-€15 per hour, plus lab fees.

Each class is designed for the students to create, learn more about themselves, and use these skills to succeed in their education, relationships and personal life. Classes offered through Elevate range from creative design, physical interaction and games, adventure trips, and more. In addition to being experts in their field, each instructor has been trained in Stichting Reckoning’s method of experiential learning so the students are guaranteed to walk away with skills they didn’t have before!

Established in 2007, Stichting Reckoning envisions a world where people move from surviving to thriving. Their mission is to facilitate personal transformation and pubic awareness through art and education. Stichting Reckoning currently partners with Stadsdeel Bos en Lommer, Koers Nieuw West, Podium Mozaïek and is offering these classes to many organizations within Amsterdam.

Deer Trouble 3

Wolf Station is a DasArts final project by Andrew Fremont-Smith and is being performed tonight at Loods 6, Amsterdam. The performance stars himself, Mariangela Tinelli, and other guests.

Tickets are 7€ and the curtain goes up at 20.30. There will be some after-show dancing with DJ And playing the funk…

A bit of background: DasArts is the multidisciplinary master’s course in theatre of the Amsterdam School of the Arts (AHK). It is a unique training laboratory with a broad conception of theatre. DasArts positions itself in the domain of the international performing arts. The course challenges students to explore artistic limits and thereby to expand the horizons of both themselves and the art of theatre. All that to say, the pieces that they produce are often of excellent quality with a penchant for the strange and innovative.

Andrew Fremont-Smith is a performance, sound and visual artist who is presenting the culmination of his education this evening. Most exciting way to stay on the cutting edge is to check out the students that are launching themselves into the art world via their final projects… enjoy the ride!

9 November 1989 - the Fall of the Berlin Wall

This is an incredible project and a major undertaking – and it is deeply significant. Martin Butler is establishing a large scale project in the framework of the 20 year anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, naturally, in Berlin.

On the 9th november 2009, the idea is to coordinate a line of people that will recreate the Berlin Wall with their physical presence and will last for approximately 30 minutes.

The Berlin Wall project is about creating a
” temporary monument of reflection”.

It’s an action to remember…

The wall was made by people, and removed by people..

It is important to take a moment to think about divisions.

Using tested “flash mob” techniques by using social networking sites such as facebook, myspace and twitter.

The plan is to divide the areas where the original wall was into sections and giving each different group the task to appear at a particular area at a certain time; ie. 8pm on the 9th at xxx intersection.

All the groups would appear at the same time, and thus would recreate the wall using people. They will stand for 30 minutes, and at 8.30pm, people will leave their places.

Group A, joining group B, joining group C, etc., until the whole 46 km of wall that divide East and West Berlin would be recreated.

It is quite an ambitious project and it needs as much support as possible from art institutions, schools, public institutions, and great people like you…
